Suzhou, A Living Scroll of Paradise
"In heaven there is paradise; on earth, Suzhou and Hangzhou." Suzhou is the quintessential representation of the Jiangnan water region, renowned worldwide for its classical gardens and ancient water towns.
This city boasts nine UNESCO World Heritage-listed gardens and is celebrated as the "City of Gardens." Stroll among the white walls and black tiles, experiencing the art of garden design that creates universes within limited spaces—the expansive openness of the Humble Administrator's Garden, the labyrinthine rockeries of the Lion Grove Garden, and the refined elegance of the Lingering Garden, each representing the pinnacle of Chinese classical garden design.
Humble Administrator's Garden

Built in the early 15th century, the Humble Administrator's Garden represents Jiangnan classical gardens with its understated, spacious, and bright Ming Dynasty style. As one of China's four most famous gardens, it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1997. Centered around water with mountains and halls arranged throughout, the garden is filled with poetic charm.
Lion Grove Garden

With over 650 years of history, Lion Grove Garden derives its name from the garden's abundance of bamboo and oddly-shaped rocks resembling lions ("suanni"). Famous for its rockeries, the garden was visited by Emperor Qianlong during his six Jiangnan tours. The rockeries stand in various forms, creating maze-like pathways, earning it the nickname "Kingdom of Rockeries."
Suzhou Museum

Designed by master architect I.M. Pei, Suzhou Museum perfectly blends traditional Suzhou architectural styles with modern design. Housing a rich collection of cultural relics, it serves as an important window into Wu culture. Located adjacent to the Humble Administrator's Garden and Lion Grove Garden, it can be visited together.
Pingjiang Road

Pingjiang Road is Suzhou's best-preserved historic district, stretching 1,606 meters and maintaining the urban layout from the Tang and Song dynasties. Walking alongside the river, you'll see white-walled, black-tiled residences, stone-paved roads, and small bridges over flowing water, embodying the charm of Jiangnan water towns. With numerous creative shops, teahouses, and trending eateries, it's the perfect place to experience Suzhou's slow-paced lifestyle.
Zhouzhuang Water Town

Known as "China's First Water Town," Zhouzhuang is one of the six famous ancient towns in Jiangnan. With crisscrossing waterways, ancient bridges, and well-preserved Ming and Qing architecture, take a painted boat tour around the town to experience authentic water town scenery. In the evening, enjoy the immersive theater performance "Only Zhouzhuang" to feel the cultural charm of this thousand-year-old town.
Tiger Hill

With over 2,500 years of history, Tiger Hill is celebrated as a "Famous Site in Wu." King Helü of Wu built his capital here and was buried here after death. The Tiger Hill Pagoda (Yunyan Temple Tower) is the world's second leaning tower, ancient and majestic. The scenic area also features the Sword Pond and Thousand People Rock, offering views everywhere.
Shantang Street

"When you arrive in Gusu, you'll see houses lining the river." Shantang Street, with over 1,100 years of history, is acclaimed as "Gusu's Number One Street." Starting from Changmen in the east to Tiger Hill in the west, it stretches about 3,600 meters. Lined with ancient buildings and shops, it's an excellent place to experience Suzhou's traditional character.
Hanshan Temple

"Moon sets, crows cry, frost fills the sky; by the river, maple trees and fishing fires face my troubled sleep. Outside Gusu City, at Hanshan Temple, the midnight bell rings to reach my boat." Hanshan Temple gained worldwide fame through Tang Dynasty poet Zhang Ji's "A Night Mooring by Maple Bridge." The temple features the "Five Ancients": Hanshan Temple, Maple Bridge, Iron Bell Pass, Maple Bridge Town, and the Ancient Canal, making it an important cultural landmark of Suzhou.
Whether wandering through UNESCO heritage gardens or strolling among the small bridges and flowing waters of ancient water towns, Suzhou offers you the unique gentleness and poetry of Jiangnan.
